about

Interdisciplinary and conceptual artist. My work revolves around the relationship between body, journey, and territory.

In each project, I use the disciplines at my disposal that I understand are necessary to express the concept that concerns me.

My journey through Galicia, Valencia, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Mexico, Ibiza and Mallorca is reflected in an artistic investigation marked by journeys and displacements.

A year after I was born in A Coruña, my parents moved to Valencia, marking the first time I had ever moved. From that moment on, I would repeat that journey, back and forth, usually by car, at least once a year.

My childhood in Valencia was marked by a hostile environment at school and a family situation of young parents with 2 children who were focused on studying and working.

Summers in Galicia, at the family home, with my grandfather became a refuge.

My grandfather painted, played chess, fished, collected things the sea brought in from the beach, worked with those things in his workshop, went fishing, trimmed the reeds to keep them in check, and went sailing. And I followed him. In everything he let me.

So, spending hours and hours with my grandfather, I developed a strong connection with him and with that land. We would walk along the beach. He would explain which were the best sticks the sea brought in, and then he would teach me how to draw with them in the wet sand, which was ideal for it. We played chess on the beach. We read the tide tables to know when the spring tides would come and go fishing at the perfect moment, we watched the sea to know when the "mareiro" (a type of swell) would arrive, rippling the surface and clouding the seabed, and we looked at maps of the estuary while pointing to the same spot at the same time, one hand on the map and the other through the window.

That time with him marked the space where I could be myself, and it has shaped my practice to this day. Every time I've had a moment of crisis, I've returned to that place and explored the territory and my relationship with it. When something arises that makes me uncomfortable, that I don't understand, and for which I can't find a profound answer beyond the intellectual, I go back to walking on that beach, to chess, to maps, and to drawing in the sand.
